About the company

OrbitAID Aerospace is building the foundation for a new era of on-orbit servicing and refueling, enabling satellites to operate longer, maneuver more freely, and deliver greater value in space. At the core of this vision is the development of standardized docking and refueling technologies and a future network of orbital fuel stations, transforming how spacecraft are designed, launched, and sustained in orbit.
Our long-term goal is to make space operations more flexible, resilient, and sustainable—where satellites are serviced, upgraded, and refueled rather than replaced. We are a small, driven team that values strong engineering fundamentals, ownership, and hands-on problem solving. At OrbitAID, you’ll work closely across disciplines, move quickly from concept to hardware and software, and contribute directly to building the space infrastructure that will power the next generation of missions.

Role Overview

The Ground Segment Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, deployment, and operation of satellite ground systems, spanning RF communications and mission operations. This role ensures robust command, telemetry, and data links, supports spacecraft operations from launch through end-of-life, and acts as a key interface between flight systems and on-ground infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain ground segment architecture, including ground stations, RF chains, antennas, and mission control systems
  • Support RF communications for TT&C and payload data, including configuration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Perform RF link budget analysis, coverage analysis, and support frequency coordination and licensing activities.
  • Plan, execute, and support mission operations, including LEOP, commissioning, routine operations, and contingency handling
  • Develop, validate, and maintain operational procedures, pass plans, timelines, and command scripts
  • Monitor spacecraft telemetry in real time and coordinate with subsystem teams to assess health and performance
  • Support anomaly investigation, root-cause analysis, and recovery actions
  • Conduct ground system testing, simulations, rehearsals, and mission readiness activities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with ground station systems, mission control software, telemetry and command infrastructure
  • Strong fundamentals in RF communications, link budget, and mission operations concepts
  • Understanding of satellite operations workflows and spacecraft subsystems

Preferred / Highly Desired Skills

  • Experience with RF link budgets, antenna systems, and modulation and coding schemes
  • Familiarity with ground station hardware and software, including SDRs, modems, and antenna control systems
  • Experience supporting LEOP and early-orbit commissioning
  • Ability to work closely with RF, spacecraft, and mission design teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience operating CubeSats, small satellites, or LEO missions
  • Familiarity with CCSDS standards, space communication protocols, and ground network services
  • Experience with shift-based or on-call mission operations support
  • Scripting or automation experience for pass planning and operations support
